Have a sales interview coming up? Are you prepared? Sales jobs are competitive by nature. You have a series of candidates who excel at selling. They know how to sell themselves, and so should you if you want to have a chance at getting the job.

Sales recruiters all know that top candidates put in time to prepare for each interview they attend. But what is THE BEST way to prepare for your next sales interview? Treat it like a sales meeting!

Treat Your Sales Interview Like a Sales Meeting

If you are interviewing for a sales job, you need to be able to show your sales skills and knowledge. Expect to be put to the test by the sales recruiter. They will want to know if you can sell. Here is how you treat your sales interview like a sales meeting. Prepare by following these steps:

1. Research the client:

In this case, the client is the hiring company. Learn everything you can about the company – products, services, clients, and competitors. Use this information to communicate your knowledge of the organization, and think about how your skills and experience can be an asset.

2. Prepare examples:

Expect to be asked behavioural questions. Have examples of your key successes, how you overcame obstacles, and how you worked through difficult situations.

3. Have a sales plan:

A job interview is really about selling yourself. So, have a sales plan that outlines your value and how you can be a top sales rep for the company. Use stats, numbers, and analytics to quantify your performance.

4. Have a long-term plan:

Most companies will ask you about your career objectives. Expect to be asked where you will be in 5 or 10 years. Have a plan that outlines where you are now and the steps you would like to take in the future.

It’s always better to be over prepared than under prepared. If you do the work upfront, understand what the hiring company is looking for, and can position yourself as a valuable asset, you will be in a good position to get a job offer.
