Sales recruiters have a wealth of knowledge to offer. There is this perception that recruiters are only looking out for the hiring company. This is not true at all. Sales recruiters want the best for both the company and the candidate. They want to find the best match for both sides.

As a sales job candidate, you can get a lot of great advice from recruiters. It is in your best interest to use this advice to your advantage. Often, a few tweaks to how you approach the job search and interview process can improve your odds of getting a job offer from a prospective employer.

Our sales recruiters have put together 4 important pieces of advice that you commonly hear but do not put into action:

Leverage Your Industry Connections

The people you know matter. Leverage the people you know to uncover job opportunities, use them as a reference, and to get advice. Having a trusted colleague review your resume or help you practice interview questions can help you improve your candidacy.

Negotiate

A job offer is a negotiation. However, it’s all too common for sales candidates to accept the first offer from an employer. Sales recruiters will always tell you to negotiate the terms of the job offer. You may be able to get a higher salary, more favorable benefits, or terms. You won’t know if there is wiggle room unless you ask.

Get Your Back Channels in Order

Hiring companies will do a lot more than just check your references when they have an interest in you. They will leverage your back channels, have conversations with people they have in common with you, check out your social media, and hire reference check companies to see what they can learn about you. Always get your back channels in order to ensure you are providing a picture of a great candidate.

Hire Me

One thing you will hear time and time again is how advantageous it can be to use a recruiter who specializes in the sales industry. A recruiter can help you quickly improve your candidacy by helping you refine your job search and provide you with invaluable insights into what hiring companies are looking for. Apply this information to improve your resume, applications, and how you approach job interviews.
