Having a strong sales resume is a must if you want to compete for top jobs in the industry. The best jobs typically see hundreds of candidates apply. So, you need your resume to stand out if you want a chance to show what you can do during the interview process.

There are a lot of ways you can approach writing your sales resume. But we asked our sales recruiters about the best approach to creating an effective resume that will land you an interview. Here are the tips they suggest:

1. Include An Engaging Professional Summary

Your professional summary should be a brief statement that summarizes your experience and skills as a sales professional. It should be tailored to the specific job you are applying for. But, it’s essential that you use it to differentiate yourself from other candidates. It’s usually the first thing a hiring manager will read, so you need to make it as engaging as possible.

2. Focus On Sales Achievements

Hiring managers want to know what you have achieved in your career so far. So, highlight your sales achievements, including quotas met or exceeded, revenue generated, and any awards or recognition you have received. Use numbers and statistics to quantify what you’ve accomplished.

3. Highlight Relevant Sales Tools You Have Experience Using

Being experienced with certain sales tools could give you a leg up on your competitors. List any relevant sales tools you have used, such as CRM software, social selling tools, or sales automation software.

4. Clearly State Your Sales Skills

What are your top sales skills? Do you have unique skills that make you a better candidate? Highlight them and list your sales skills such as communication, negotiation, relationship building, and closing techniques. Stick to a list of your top skills that are relevant to the role.

5. List Your Work Experience and Education Strategically

List your work experience in reverse chronological order, including the company name, your job title, and your key responsibilities and achievements.

In terms of education, list your education, including any relevant degrees or certifications. This can include sales training courses or certifications from professional organizations.

Depending on your level of experience and what is preferred by the employer, you may want to list your work experience or education first. Adjust the order of sections on your resume based on job requirements.
