As a sales recruitment agency, we know you need a strong sales resume if you want to land a great job. But if you are struggling to line up job interviews, there is a good chance you have some overlooked issues with your resume. In this blog, our sales recruiters talk about the top problems with your sales resume that you’re overlooking:

1. You are failing to connect how you can help the organization

A great resume has a good balance of self-promotion while not losing focus on how you can help a prospective employer. Many sales professionals are great at listing their accolades. But, if you don’t connect the dots and explain how your experience can help a company, they may overlook you as a candidate.

As they talk about all the time in sales, you need to be customer-focused. In this instance, the customer is the employer, and you are selling them your services as a sales professional.

2. Too much sales industry jargon

You don’t have to use sales industry jargon as a way to show you have experience in the industry. It’s not only unnecessary, but it can also make it more challenging for interviewers to understand what you are trying to communicate. Use plain, easy-to-understand language to explain your experience and why you are a great candidate.

3. Not enough emphasis on proof of sales performance

Talking about your accomplishments and what you have achieved is great, but it’s important to take things to the next level by providing proof. Use numbers, stats, and facts to back up your experience. This will help you quantify your performance and give potential employers a better understanding of what you can help them accomplish if they hire you.

4. It lacks customization

Just like when you are working on a sales solution for a prospect, it’s imperative for you to customize your resume based on the specific job you are applying for. Sales managers are not going to be interested in candidates with generic applications and resumes. It’s a clear sign you didn’t put the time into crafting your application. And, if you don’t put the time in now, it may be a sign you won’t put the necessary time into researching customers either.

If you are guilty of any of the above sales resume blunders, it could be hurting your candidacy when you apply for sales jobs. Review your resume and make the necessary adjustments.
