Are you looking for a job? Are you at least willing to consider making a career move? Want to find that perfect sales job?

Sending out resumes and filling out online job applications are not the only ways to find new opportunities. In fact, there is an effective way (when done right) to generate new opportunities for yourself. How? By attracting recruiters to your LinkedIn profile. The best part is that it’s passive. All you need to do is follow these simple LinkedIn profile rules:

1. Update your profile (YESTERDAY)

Recruiters look for candidates with updated profiles. When was the last time you updated your LinkedIn profile? Now is always the best time to update it. Even if you are not actively looking, keeping your profile updated will open the door to passive opportunities. You never know when a recruiter may be looking at your profile.

2. Let recruiters know you’re open to opportunities

LinkedIn has a feature that allows you to mark your profile as being open to new opportunities. When you do this, you will stand out in recruiter searches, you can share your career interests, and it will help you get more opportunities from recruiters. If you are actively looking, this is a must.

3. Create a strong, compelling profile summary

A well written profile summary is a key to generating interest from recruiters. It’s one of the first things they will see and read. Make it compelling, summarize your experience and skills effectively, and give them a reason to want to contact you.

4. Include work samples

The more value and insight into who you are and what you can do, the better your profile will be.  Including work samples on your profile gives interested recruiters the ability to learn more about you. It also allows you to put your work and skills on display. It adds another dimension to your profile.

5. Connect with them

If you want recruiters to view your profile more often, don’t be afraid to connect with them. Being active on LinkedIn is important. Join professional groups, get actively involved in conversations online, and write articles on LinkedIn. All of these things will help you gain more connections – especially recruiters.
