A sales rep’s ability to use tools like Salesforce.com and other CRM tools is an asset. Most sales companies use some form of software application to track the sales process. There is a wide variety of software applications that are used as part of the sales process. Some organizations use multiple applications in coordination with each other. Having knowledge of the most widely used software and an understanding of how these tools work tells a hiring manager that you have awareness of industry trends and the ability to integrate quickly to the team.

2. Internet skills

Having an excellent understanding of how to best leverage the internet to aid in selling is essential today. There is an increasing need to sell online and leverage online platforms and social media to support the sales process. Strong interview skills make it easier for you to research companies and prospects, communicate with customers, and provide more support and customer service.

3. Business acumen

Sales is one of many facets that make up a successful business. A candidate with strong business acumen is appealing to hiring managers. When you can not only sell well but understand the sales function and your specific role within the greater context of the business, you can take things to another level. Hiring managers could also see you as a potential candidate for a promotion or more strategic role because of your big-picture thinking abilities.
