Working in sales can be tough. You get a lot of pushback from customers. You get told “no” a lot more than “yes,” and you will experience your fair share of negativity. It’s all part of the job.

But it can be difficult to take. However, another area of your job that can get on your nerves is irritating questions asked by customers. Even though they may mean well, hearing the same annoying questions on a regular basis can get to you.

Irritating Sales Customer Questions

Our sales recruiters have put together a list of some of the most irritating questions sales reps hear:

1. Can I speak to your manager?

This is perhaps the most irritating question you can get asked by a sales customer. Your managers coach you on what to say when interacting with customers, so the customer will most likely receive the exact same response from a manager about their inquiry.

The best way to answer this question is to reply with a yes. Follow up with your manager and have them connect with the customer – even though your manager will likely tell the customer the same thing you just did.

2. Can you do better?

Customers always seem to think sales reps are holding something back. They think that if they ask enough, reps can lower the price or sweeten the deal. This is rarely the case. Most reps offer the best deal to customers to win their business, without holding back.

The best way to answer this question is to reaffirm that you are providing them with the best deal you can. This may also be when a customer asks to speak to your manager to see if they can get a better deal. Tell them you will see what you can do. Sometimes, you may be able to get them a slightly better deal or add more value.

3. Can you double check that?

This is a particularly irritating question because it insinuates that sales reps are not sure what they are talking about. Often, customers ask this question if they don’t believe what reps are saying.

The best way to answer this question is to go along with it and double check for the customer. It will make them feel better that they know for sure.
