Hiring is your opportunity to improve your company. Similar to other industries, there are certain questions that recruiters should ask when hiring in the banking sector.

Our sales recruiters have put together a list of critical questions recruiters should ask when interviewing candidates in the banking sector:

1. Why Did You Get Into The Banking Sector?

Understanding candidates’ underlying reasons for getting into the industry will give you some insights into their motivation. Some people are more interested in making money than making a difference. A person’s motivation can tell you a lot about them personally and professionally. Look for candidates with the right reasons for choosing banking.

2. How Do Your Skills and Experience Fit Well with Our Organizational Culture?

Finding qualified candidates is important, but finding a candidate who can seamlessly integrate into your company culture is even more important. This question can also provide you with insight into the candidate’s previous experience, where they see themselves and provide you with an indication of how much research they did about your company.

3. How Do You Handle Customer Complaints?

In banking, like many other customer service based industries, you will handle your fair share of customer complaints and issues. How a candidate approaches customer issues will tell you about the quality of customer service you can expect out of them.

4. What Is Your 5-Year Plan?

There is a fair amount of wiggle room within the banking industry. Candidates with the right education and certification can quickly move up into a variety of roles. Getting a sense of the candidate’s career goals and objectives will provide you with insights into how you can best utilize their talents and understand their interests.

5. Do You Plan to Get Additional Training in the Future?

There are a wide variety of accounting, finance, and banking certifications and training courses professionals can take to improve their skills and experience. Asking this question gives you insight into the candidate’s drive, desire to improve, and their focus for professional development.

6. What Other Skills, Experience, Training Do You Have?

Candidates with experience in other industries or who have training in other professions may be able to bring something new and fresh to the table. They may have talent and experience other candidates don’t.
