Patience is a virtue. No one likes having to wait around for anything. Waiting is particularly difficult after a job interview. You want to hear back as soon as possible about whether or not you got the sales job.

The tough thing is you have no control. You just have to wait and see. It could take a couple days, or it could take a couple weeks. Rather than putting everything on hold until you know, use the time constructively.

Our sales recruiters put together 4 things you can do with your time while waiting to hear back from a sales job:

1. Send a killer thank you note

The first thing you should do after a sales job interview is to spend some time creating a top-notch thank you note. Send the thank you note within 24 hours of your interview. Thank the interviewer for their time, ask if they have follow up questions, and reaffirm your interest in the position. This will help keep you top of mind.

2. Keep looking

Even if you’ve had a successful job interview, it doesn’t mean everything should come to a standstill. There is never a guarantee you will get the job. You don’t know what the company is looking for. You don’t know who you are competing against. So, keep looking.

Keep the job search going until you hear back and get a job offer. You never know—you may find the perfect job opportunity while you are waiting to hear back from the company you interviewed with previously.

3. Keep yourself occupied

Keeping yourself occupied is important. Whether this is working at your current job, taking a few days off to relax, or even tackling those things you never seem to get around to, it’s important to occupy your mind and your time. If you don’t, you’ll dwell on it.

4. Follow up

It’s always a good idea to follow up, especially if you didn’t hear back from the company within the timeframe they stated. Send a quick email to follow up on the status of their decision. But make sure you don’t appear to be too desperate.
