People often discuss the key to success. Some say the key is intelligence. Others say it is education. Some even say the key to success is to be good looking. But we all know people who are smart, highly educated and handsome who do not seem to have a lot of influence. So, what is the key to success, especially in sales? The answer is sales charisma. Charisma is the ability to have people like and connect you and is often a trait found in the best sales people. You don’t have to be born charismatic. You can learn some of the elements that will give you sales charisma.

1. People with sales charisma are givers not takers.

People with sales charisma are generous. They are generous with their time, their money, and their attention. When you talk with a person with sales charisma, you feel like you are the only person in the room. You will have their undivided attention. They will never take more than their fair share of anything and they will not make a big deal about it. People with sales charisma not only believe that “you can have it all” they also believe that “everyone can have it all” and they will help others to get more out of life. People with sales charisma know that the most important part of sales is the relationship. To be more charismatic, you need to be present with the people you are with. You need to shut off the phone, clear your mind and focus on the person in front of you. You want that person, especially clients and prospects that they are important to you and you are interested in what they have to say.

2. People with sales charisma have a natural awareness.

They know their own personal strengths and weakness. By knowing the areas where they are not strong, they can try to overcome these areas. People with sales charisma are also very tuned in to the people around them. They are sensitive to the thoughts and feelings of those around them and can pick up on non-verbal cues very quickly. In addition, people with sales charisma will constantly seek out people who can help them become better. Very few people are not flattered when asked for advice or about their own history of success. To unlock the key to sales charisma, you need to find people who have been successful and model their behavior.

3. People with sales charisma have presence.

They are self-assured and self-confident without being obnoxious or bragging. They are comfortable with themselves. They know what they are good at and what they are not good at. This balance is what makes them approachable. They do not need to undermine or put other people down to feel good about themselves. They are confident themselves and prefer to build others up. With this type of confidence, people with sales charisma are naturally able to influence others. Their confidence and approachability make others naturally receptive to them. By being good and focused listeners, they can see things from the prospective of another. This helps them to know just what to say to sway someone who may be on the fence.

Studies have shown that more than education or good looks, charisma is the one thing that can really set people apart. Not everyone is born naturally charismatic. However, you can take the time to develop your own charisma to help you be more successful. The main keys to sales charisma:

  • Be generous and focused on the people around you.
  • Know your own strengths and weaknesses. Be self-aware.
  • Be confident and not afraid to stand out.

By incorporating these key elements, you will find that you can develop your own sales charisma to help you find the success that you desire.
