While you can go about your job search the traditional way, if you work with a recruiter, you’ll be much more likely to land a job with a top level company and chances are, you’ll also be getting a better wage than you would if you tried it on your own.

In order to ensure that the top sales recruiters are interested in you, you need to spend a little extra time working on your resume. There are specific traits and abilities that sales recruiters look for and you will increase your chances of getting selected if your resume has these important qualities listed.

What They Want to See

While some may think that previous sales experience is necessary to get the attention of sales recruiters, in reality they are looking for a variety of things on your resume. Experience is typically helpful, but a lack of it is not always a deal breaker. In fact, some companies prefer to have sales candidates that have not been taught a certain way so that they can instruct them on what they feel is the proper technique.

What sales recruiters want to see are qualities such as self motivation and self accountability. They are also looking for people who are open on their salary requirements and willing to put in extra work to get extra money. Great sales people are typically goal motivated and sales recruiters definitely want to see this on your resume.

How to Tailor Your Resume For Sales Recruiters

Now that you know what sales recruiters want to see in your resume, it’s time to put this knowledge to work. As you list your prior work history, include your past duties, particularly if they required you to meet specific goals. Focus on your qualities that highlight your abilities to motivate yourself, as well as others. Include a brief section that describes how you accomplished your tasks at your prior job and describe how self driven you are. You can also include goal setting and motivational information in the skill section of your resume. If you’ve achieved quota every year, make sure you state that. If you’ve won sales awards or president’s clubs, make sure that is at the top of your resume.

If you don’t have prior work experience in sales or any other industry, such as if you are just fresh out of school, that’s perfectly fine. You’ll just need to include some of these key points on your CV. Discuss any special training you’ve had in sales theory or business management. Sales recruiters are looking for people who not only will be talented in sales right now, they also want candidates who have a bright future ahead of them and the ability to be promoted within their new companies.

Remember, sales candidates are a direct reflection on sales recruiters. If you can convince them that you are the perfect candidate, they’ll be more than willing to help you land a terrific sales job.
