new grad no job consider salesIf you’ve just graduated from college, chances are, you’re looking at the current job market with more than a little trepidation. While things may be tight in some sectors, some of the best and most in demand positions for new grad jobs are in sales. If you’ve never considered applying for sales jobs in the past, now is definitely the time to start.

Sales is one area that will always in high demand. Companies are constantly looking for new sales people that can help them reach their company’s revenue target and recent college graduates are great candidates. Sales positions are typically available even in the worst economic downturns because companies always need new talent. Let’s take a look at just a few reasons why a career in sales may be perfect for you.

Fast paced and exciting career choice.

With a sales job, you’ll never be bored. This is a career that offers the fast pace and excitement that are lacking from many traditional jobs. If you are someone who likes to stay busy, and wants the excitement that can come from meeting goals and bringing in new clients, this is the career for you. Sales jobs also offer a lot of variety, something that traditional careers lack. No matter what you’re interested in or what you’re passionate about, chances are you’ll find a sales job in that specialty.

The ability to earn more than you can in traditional careers.

With a typical career, you have a set hourly rate or salary and other than a raise or an annual bonus (which are in short supply in tough economic times) that’s all you can earn. With a job in sales you not only have a base pay rate, but the ability to earn commission. This alone can mean you can easily make thousands of dollars more every single year. As long as you’re motivated and excel at building relationships with your clients, you’ll be a successful sales person. For new grad jobs, sales positions are by far more profitable.

The ability to set your own goals and steer your own course for the future.

Instead of worrying about hitting a glass ceiling in a traditional career, with sales jobs, you set your own course. As long as you are motivated and able to keep goals and hold yourself accountable, you can go as high as you want in your career. Most successful business owners started out in sales. You can work for someone else for a few years to get your feet under you and then start your own company and set your own hours. Even if you don’t want to be an entrepreneur, sales jobs simply offer more opportunities for personal success.

Traditional, entry-level new grad jobs may be in short supply, but if you want a career with a future, and the ability to make a lot of money, sales jobs are the place to look.
