When searching for employment, most job seekers look to online job boards. Sure, you might find a few decent leads, but you probably won’t find that great sales job you’ve been hoping for. There are better ways to look for employment online—like searching and engaging with companies and hiring managers on social media platforms. Specifically, LinkedIn is a great source of leads when you’re not only looking for a sales job but also when you’re looking for a great sales job.

LinkedIn is underrated. There are so many advanced features you can use to tailor your job search to find a great sales job. Many people don’t know about these additional options, which mean they’re not using the social media site to its full potential. So to get you on your way to finding better leads for that great sales job you’re searching for, we’ve detailed some of the awesome features you can take advantage of on LinkedIn.

Get Introduced

You’ve probably been cold calling and emailing your resume to hiring managers all over your city. Though it’s standard protocol, it’s a little impersonal, don’t you think? Instead, use LinkedIn’s new built-in feature called “get introduced”. If you’re in sales, you probably have LinkedIn connections and friends who know others in the industry—people who are hiring for a great sales job you’d like to be considered for. When you use this feature, you can filter your search by second connections, click on “get introduced” in the drop-down menu, and then find your first-degree connection—someone you’re already connected with—and write him a quick message requesting to be introduced to that first person.

Research Hiring Managers

These days, most professionals with the slightest digital knowledge are on LinkedIn. When you’ve found a great sales job that you’re interested in applying to, do some research ahead of time in order to have a chance at being noticed. Instead of simply addressing your resume to “To whom it may concern”, find out who the hiring manager is at that company’s sales department using LinkedIn’s advanced people search. Simply type in the name of the company and the keyword “sales” and then filter the results for the location you’re looking for. From there, you not only have the person’s name and position to make your resume more personal, but you also have the option of reaching out using LinkedIn’s InMail to send an invitation to connect or ask questions about the job.

Keep an Eye Out on that Great Sales Job

If that great sales job is at a specific company—your dream company—you can easily use LinkedIn to set up alerts for new job postings. You know that when that great sales job comes up you have to act fast in order to get a real shot at it. Setting up alerts allows you to find out about the job posting right away, so you don’t miss your dream opportunity. All you have to do is go to the advanced people search, put in your keywords and then click “save search” and opt in for weekly alerts.

Let Your Network Know You’re Looking

Though LinkedIn has many great features, don’t underestimate the power of your own profile. You can update your profile to let prospective employers know you’re looking for a great sales job. If you’re already employed, you can be more discreet by letting others know you’re job searching with InMail. Many people are willing to help you on your search if you simply ask them.

Join Groups

LinkedIn has so many groups that you’re sure to find one in your location that matches your expertise or the industry you’re looking to get into. There, you’ll be able to join relevant discussions, meet like-minded people who may have openings in their companies, and search for that great sales job.
