Happy Mother’s Day to all the great moms out there!

There is no doubt that moms have a big influence on who we become. They can even have an impact on how you approach your career and how you do things. Sales is no different. There are certain lessons that we were taught by our moms when we were younger that stick with us, and some of these ideas help shape our approach to sales. Sometimes, it’s these life lessons that help us succeed and put us on the path to success.

5 Selling Tips from Mom

Since Mother’s Day is right around the corner, we’ve put together a list of selling tips from Mom:

1. Don’t sell yourself short:

If you want to be successful in sales, you need to have confidence in your abilities. Trust your skills and believe in what you are selling if you want others to buy from you.

2. Mind your manners:

It is amazing how much of an impact being polite and saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ can have. Always be respectful and use your manners when dealing with clients. They will appreciate it.

3. You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar:

Your attitude and approach to sales will play a big role in your success. Being too aggressive and taking a hard sales approach is a major turn off for many people. Having a softer and more welcoming approach, with genuine concern for your clients, will go much further.

4. Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never break me:

You will receive pushback when selling. It’s part of the role and, at times, people may say some unflattering things about you, your sales approach, your company, or the products and services you are selling. Try not to take it personally and move on. They’re only words.

5. Anything worth having is worth working for:

Closing a deal takes work, especially large dollar value deals that come with a nice commission check. Making a sale can take time, so be willing to put in the work if you want to get the reward – the sale.

A mom’s advice is timeless. Consider using the above tips in your sales approach to improve your skills and change your outlook on your sales strategies.
