If you are planning on making a career move, starting your sales career, or re-entering the workforce, you need to understand the sales industry landscape. You’ll want to know which types of companies are hiring, popular positions, and the most viable sales career path for you. It can be challenging to pinpoint specific job titles, but there are certain trends emerging in the sales industry for the coming year.

Here are some predictions for the most popular sales jobs in 2022:

HIRE BETTER TODAY

1. What is old is new again

Many of the popular sales jobs that existed before the pandemic will return. But the way these jobs are done and the tools used to sell will change somewhat to reflect the post-COVID era.

Martin Fleming, Chief Revenue Scientist, on Varicent.com, explains how sales roles will return, but with a different focus:

“Expect sales employment to increase in 2021 and 2022 in the US and Canada as vaccinations increase and immunization spreads. Like most job roles, sales hiring declined sharply during the pandemic. However, selling is a vital role for all organizations and, as growth strengthens over the quarters ahead, expect sales employment growth to strengthen as well. But, be aware, selling will very likely change in important ways with less travel, less face-to-face engagement, and more skill improvement and training required.”

2. Remote sales positions will increase

Expect the sales industry to follow the trends of increasing the number of sales jobs that are offered as remote positions. With concern about the new Omicron variant, you can expect companies to keep their people at home if possible. If an organization needs to hire, you can expect it to be for remote positions, either temporarily or on a permanent basis.

3. Retail sales associate jobs are plentiful

The retail sector has been hit hard in the past couple of years. Stores were shut down, the number of in-person shoppers was capped, and many companies were forced to shift to an online model. Expect things to rebound in 2022. There will be a lot of opportunities in retail sales at all job levels as companies look to get their sales force back up to pre-COVID operations numbers.
