Getting a call for a sales interview is step one in the process. Now you need to ace it to be considered for the position. This is easier said than done, right?

Sales interviews are unique in the sense that companies are looking for a specific type of person. They want someone who can blow them away with their sales abilities. This means that most sales interviews can be very interactive. You will likely be put on the spot and asked to display your sales skills and experience. What better way to identify a great sales rep than to see what they are made of?

Here are 3 tips to ace a sales interview:

1. Know the Product/Service You’d Be Selling

As part of your company research, familiarize yourself with the product/service you would be hired to sell. It’s important to know as much as possible about them not only so you will know what you will be selling, but to see if it is something that you believe in.

Is the product something you would buy? Is it something you are interested in? If not, you may have a difficult time convincing the interviewer, and customers, about the value of the product. The more you know about the company and its products, the better.

2. Be Prepared to Sell

When interviewing for a sales role you need to be prepared to show what you are made of. Be prepared to sell. Expect to be provided with a number of hypothetical sales situations, explain your sales philosophy, or you may even be asked to sell the company’s product/service. Interviewers will put your sales skills to the test.

3. Sell Yourself

Being a strong candidate is not only about experience and skills. Experience comes with time, and skills can be taught. What most companies are looking for today are sales professionals who are a cultural fit. They want people who share the same values and ideals. They want someone who can fit seamlessly into their sales culture and fit right in on the sales team. Therefore, it’s important to sell yourself as a great fit for the company on all levels.
