So, you’ve applied for a position, made it through the interview process, and now you’ve been triumphant and been offered the job. Congratulations!

Your work is not done yet. With a job offer in tow, you need to make a very important decision. Should you leave your current job and take the new one?

No two sales jobs are exactly the same. You could sell different things, work on the phone, online, in person, have different sales goals, not to mention considering organizational culture, opportunities for career growth, and more.

Before you take a leap of faith and take the job, there are a few questions that you should ask yourself before taking that sales job to ensure it is the right fit for you.

3 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Taking That Sales Job

Considering the following questions when you have a news sales job opportunity is important to ensure you are making the right next step in your sales career:

Question 1: Is the Position Aligned with Your Career Goals?

It’s easy to get caught up in the process of being wooed by a company, and in that moment, it’s easy to lose sight of your long term career goals, especially if a hefty raise is part of the job offer.

Even though you may be offered more money short term, does the position make sense and fit with your long term career aspirations? Does the job offer opportunity for growth? Do you think it is a good stepping stone?

Question 2: Will This Job Make You Happy?

Take a step back and give yourself a chance to actually think about the job you were offered. Is this the type of job you want? Will it make you happy?

Think about the company culture and reputation, the people you will be working with and your sales manager. Do you think this is a good environment for you? Will it be a place you look forward to going each day? Will you be selling things that you have a passion about, or is it just another pay check?

“We spend far too much time at work to not be happy there. And considering how often you’ll interact with colleagues, it’s important that your new company and team is a great fit for you personality-wise,” says Angela Smith on The Muse.

Question 3: Is This the Position You Were Looking For?

There is a big difference between finding the job you were looking for and a job that was offered to you. Remember that just because you were offered the job doesn’t mean you have to take it. Make sure the job offers the type of sales you are interested in, allows you to grow and take advantage of your strengths, and provides you with the career opportunities you need to become a better sales rep.
